De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) is a member of De La Salle Philippines (DLSP), a network of 18 institutions managed by the Brothers of the Christian Schools. As such, it is guided by the principles of Lasallian education.

It traces its origin to the Career Development Program (CDP) of De La Salle University-Manila (DLSU-M). In 1980, under the administration of Br. Andrew Gonzalez FSC, the CDP was opened as a night school for working professionals.

By 1985, the CDP became the Community College. In addition to the night school, the College offered pre-baccalaureate programs directed at improving student competencies required for collegiate studies and baccalaureate degrees for regular students.

The College began its move towards autonomy when it was renamed De La Salle University-College of Saint Benilde in 1988, moved to its own campus at 2544 Taft Avenue, Manila, and became a member institution of the De La Salle University System. By 1993, the College started conducting its own admissions process and in 1997, it held its first commencement exercises independent of DLSU-Manila. In 1998, the College officially became a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

In response to its continuous development and expansion, the College inaugurated its second campus along Arellano Avenue corner Estrada Street: the Angelo King International Center (AKIC) in 1999.

In 2004, the College, along with other non-university members of the DLSU System, dropped the term “University” from its name and became known as De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde. The DLSU System was replaced by De La Salle Philippines in 2006.

In 2007, the College inaugurated its third campus along P. Ocampo St.: the School of Design and Arts (SDA) Building.

Following Br. Andrew’s vision of an innovative and dynamic learning community, DLS-CSB has pioneered in offering new and industry-responsive programs throughout its short history. These pioneering efforts include:

In its earlier years, DLS-CSB promoted educational innovations through teaching methodologies grounded on Howard Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences (1983). Since the year 2000, however, the educational philosophy of the College has evolved toward a more learner-centered orientation, in keeping with the Lasallian Guiding Principles. The recognition of intelligences other than the linguistic and logical-mathematical still remains, but such attention is now given within the larger context of developing a learner-centered environment that understands, appreciates, and nurtures a wide range of human potential in individuals.

In the School Year 2006-2007, in line with its commitment to the Lasallian Guiding Principles, the College established the Office of Lasallian Mission, Ministry and Planning, headed by an Assistant Vice President, to ascertain that the College programs, plans, and activities are consistent with these principles.
